Do's & Don't of Renting Your Car To The Movies
The Do's & Don'ts:
When renting your vehicle to a movie there are many questions and
considerations. Here we will try to answer some, it's called the do's and don'ts. |
- Do make sure the production company has insurance for the picture
( we will not work with any production company that doesn't have proper insurance.)
- Don't rent your vehicle if it is the only one in the world,
cannot by any means have a scratch, dent, or get dirty. If it's more important to
you than your wife or girl friend. The production companies have been very good
to us and our renters in the past at paying for damage. Some shows equipment will
be used more than others and sometimes accidents happen, ( have a good record of
your vehicle with photo's in and out, before the vehicle is sent out ) scripts can
be changed. It is our intention to know what kind of use vehicle will have and this
is not to change without the consent of the owner. We have had less trouble with
the production companies paying for damage than " well some trying to hose the production
company.
- Do make sure you have a contract with the company you are doing
business with, most of these are one page contracts covering the agreed upon terms.
- Don't rent your car if you are trying to rebuild it at the
expense of the production company ( this can happen, but as a rule it is with the
approval of the production company.)
- Do rent your vehicle if you want to make some good money (
this is one of the most asked question .) This is always up for negotiations, vehicles
can be rented by the day, week, month or months, the price has to do with the need
for the vehicle, rarity, time needed, rent vs. buying, it can go anywhere from $25
a day for long term low end equipment to $$$$$$$$ big bucks for some vehicles. The
best thing to keep in mind is that our company and the production companies have
done this many times and will pay a fair market price for the use of your vehicle.
Hey let's face it if you have a rare vehicle that is needed you should be paid top
dollar for the use of it. It has been my experience that not many have the market
cornered on any vehicle. So just use your best negotiations skills to get the best
rate. Keep in mind this is a fast pace business, and our policy has been to tell
our suppliers when negotiations are at an end and that contract needs to be signed.
Don't wish you had done it.

- Don't rent the vehicle if it is not yours or you do not have
written permission to do so.
- Do rent if you have the time to assist with your car on locations
and like to have some fun ( This can be a blast if your favorite actor or actress
is on the set, it can get a little boring, but if your contract is for car only
you don't have to be there.)
- Don't pass up this fun and money making opportunity.
